“There’s no leaving Edinburgh, No shifting it around: it stays with you, always.”

Alan Bold

Edinburgh is a stunningly beautiful city that means so much to people around the world. Its World Heritage Site status reflects the city’s beauty, history, pace, culture – all the things that make people fall in love with it.

The steadfast shared heritage and history between Scotland and the United States is unique in the world. Millions of Americans have an affinity with Scotland’s kind people, abundant natural beauty, world-class cities, and long history. In the most recent US census, more than five million Americans claimed Scottish history, fostering an enduring cultural link between the two; over 630,000 Americans visit Scotland each year.

We at Edinburgh World Heritage have been working to keep the city we love special for more than 50 years by supporting the conservation of Edinburgh’s heritage, which is at the heart of our identity, wellbeing, economy, and environmental goals. To that end, we are passionate about deepening and strengthening the close historic bonds between Scotland and North America by ensuring that all who care about Edinburgh can play a significant part in its conservation today.
