Legacies in Stone

Legacies in Stone by Edinburgh World Heritage

Legacies in Stone is a three-year community heritage project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, running from January 2026 to January 2029.

Headline projects:

  • Greyfriars Kirkyard: On-site activities and monument learning in partnership with the Friends of Greyfriars Kirkyard and the Grassmarket Community Project.
  • New & Old Calton Burial Grounds: Be part of a new ‘Friends’ group dedicated to the care and preservation of these two iconic graveyards.
  • Scotland-wide Network: Creating a peer-led support network in collaboration with the Kirkmichael Trust and other local heritage groups.

Edinburgh World Heritage is working with a diverse range of partners to co-deliver projects that welcome public participation. Practical activities will develop volunteers’ skills and knowledge, strengthening community stewardship of three Edinburgh World Heritage site graveyards and historic burial sites across Scotland.
