We’re delighted to announce the second online talk of our 2024 Summer Tour Through Edinburgh event series presented in collaboration with the New York Caledonian Club. Following the success of our first event, a Virtual Tour Through Edinburgh, we bring you “Tenement Tales,” led by our Head of Conservation (Buildings) Jane Robertson.

Tenement Tales

Join us to learn about the history of tenements and their conservation in Edinburgh presented by Jane Robertson of Edinburgh World Heritage in partnership with the New York Caledonian Club. This talk delves into the architectural and social history of tenements, which have been a defining feature of Edinburgh’s urban landscape for centuries, and the unique conservation challenges they face. Jane will also discuss the role of Edinburgh World Heritage in preserving these iconic structures, from the funding mechanisms to success stories of restored buildings.

This event is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in social history, heritage conservation, or Edinburgh to gain a deeper understanding of the city’s architectural legacy and the efforts to preserve it for future generations. No background knowledge required!

About Jane Robertson

Jane is Head of Conservation (Buildings) at Edinburgh World Heritage. She is a Conservation Accredited Architect and Project Manager. Jane has a broad range of experience in the heritage sector, having worked in private architectural practices, as a District Architect with Historic Environment Scotland and as a Heritage Project Manager for the National Lottery Heritage Fund, community groups, charities and local authorities.
